The history of assistance, in general, and of hospitals, in particular, correspond to a multidisciplinary research topic that has brought together different researchers and research perspectives, addressing issues of social, religious and scientific history. The history of architecture also has an important field of study in these themes, that has been consolidated in recent years.
In this volume of ARTis ON we have gathered a set of articles on Assistance Architecture in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Italy and Brazil, which were submitted to a demanding editorial process. These articles deal with Assistance Architecture in historical, historical-artistic and cultural heritage perspectives, highlighting the importance of research and the need to know and preserve historic buildings and making them known, both their material assets and their associated immaterial practices.
