The current journal issue for ARTis ON is dedicated to the topic of Art & Power. This theme is related to both present and past, which raises numerous questions that transcend cultural and temporal boundaries. Over the course of seventeen studies, complementary plural perspectives are presented, resulting from the vision of historians, art historians, architects, plastic artists, from Portugal, Brazil, Israel, Iran, Poland, Venezuela, Mexico, USA, making this issue particularly attractive to researchers and an unmistakable landmark in the approach to the topic. Through several cases of study that constitute true exercises of affirmation of power, ranging from political power to religious power, also considering the power of art itself to challenge installed values and systems, there are also reflections on the power of artistic freedom, as well as on practices that contribute to its despoiling.
