This article is based on a research conducted about the form and content of the collection of records of saints gathered by D. Gabriel de Sousa (1912-1997). D. Gabriel de Sousa organized his collection following models of organization similar to those used by Luís Chaves and Ernesto Soares in the collections of records of saints of the Museu Nacional de Arqueologia (Archeological National Museum) and Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal (National Library of Portugal) allowing us to explore the social-anthropological, artistic and heritage aspects and whose interpretation may help us better understand Portuguese art colleting, in the private sphere of the first half of the twentieth century.
