The convents of the archdiocese of Évora reflect, on the one hand due to their concentration, importance and wealth, and on the other hand due to the diversity of their post- closure uses, an era that changed the consolidated urban area of this city. From the mid- nineteenth century on they are occupied with new facilities, and, in some cases, we witness their demolition and the later building construction in the old convents’ enclosures. This article reflects that the dynamics which started in 1834 has been extended over the years, and prevails to the present day.
