This article puts forward proposals to improve the heritage status of the Monastery of Santa Maria de Pombeiro, founded in the 11th century, close to the town of Felgueiras and near to the monastery of Tibães. By looking at the question of the value of heritage today and how it can be further enhanced, the reasons for the choice of this particular site are explained. Those reasons are linked to the past of Pombeiro, but also to its present characteristics, which provide a good basis for its development as a museum. The potential for using up to date technologies in this socio- cultural project is also discussed.
